"Church" services as evangelistic venues

It seems, historically speaking, that the focus on evangelistic "church" services began with the revivalists a few centuries in the past. This is not a new testament church thing! This strategy has been developed into an art form, particularly by the megachurches. But does this strategy not continue to take the average churchgoer further out of the mission to which he or she is called; making disciples?

When an unbeliever comes to a church service, meets nice people, and feels some of the love he or she has been looking for, they may enter into behavior modification mode. You know, clean up the language, learn the churchy language, dress to fit in, join in a service ministry, join a small group.

But what happens if he or she never experiences life transformation... because they fit in and become a part of the crowd?

Better they are invited into the home of a believing friend or coworker who disciples them into a relationship with Christ, and helps the new disciple really connect with the head of the Church, Jesus Christ. Then, after they are grounded and developing the ability to pray, listen, and obey the voice of God, have them join in with the body in celebration and mutual edification.

Better to bond with Jesus than with an organizational meeting held in a "church" building.

Do I ask for too much? What do you think?
